General Discussion / Re: Calendar down?
« on: March 17, 2017, 01:36:54 PM »
From what I can tell, it looks like the problem seems to be isolated to using Internet Explorer 11.

Since nothing has changed with the calendar on the website, and it apparently renders correctly on all other browsers, my assumption at this point is that it may be due to a Microsoft update. I am currently trying to find out of there has been a recent update or security patch for IE that may be the culprit.

In the meantime, if anyone is experiencing an issue with the calendar not showing up properly, I would strongly recommend using a different browser. Chrome, Firefox and Microsoft Edge all seem to be working fine.

I'm currently able to access the website on two computers (one Mac and one Windows-based) without any problems. Also, I can view it fine on my Android phone.

Not sure what you might have going on. If it's still an issue, can you let me know which browser(s) you are using? Just reply in this thread.

Also, since the website is hosted on a shared server, you may have been trying at a time when that server was experiencing particularly high demand. It seems fine now.

This event is flat-out the most amusing, frustrating, enjoyable thing I have ever done.

Highly recommended!!!

Unfortunately, I will not be able to get down to Waukesha for this year's State Shoot. However, I would like to wish all of the competitors good luck! The same goes for all the people involved in putting on the event.

If anyone wants to put together a little summary for each day, I'd be happy to post it on the website each evening.

As always, I appreciate the kind comments!

It appears that the issue is resolved. I'm continuing to do some work on checking and verifying the security for the whole website, but we seem to be OK now.

The offer for the entry is very generous. At this point, I'm unlikely to be able to shoot. We're soon taking our eldest spawn down to begin his freshman year of college and we've got some last-minute family stuff planned. However, our plans are almost constantly changing, so I may yet take you up on it. Due to my work schedule this week, I could only possibly get down for the weekend in any event.

I'll let you know for sure by Wednesday.

Thanks again!

If I don't get down there, I hope you all have an enjoyable and wildly successful WI State Shoot! If I do get down there, I hope it's even better!

Some of you may have noticed that our website was briefly being redirected to an on-line casino. Basically, one line of code had been maliciously added to the website, pointing it elsewhere. That code has been removed and I will be working on a security review over the next few days.

For what it's worth, going directly to the website always worked. It was only when accessing the website off of Google or other search engines that the redirect would kick in.

As of this time, Google has the message "This website may be hacked" underneath the listing for the WSCA website, despite the offending line of code being removed. I am working on getting that resolved, but it may take a little while. Other search engines (yahoo, duckduckgo) show no similar comments.

I apologize for any confusion or inconvenience... and as always, appreciate your understanding!

General Discussion / Re: Forum Message Posting Problem

Thanks for the kind words!

Everything seems to be working OK, and it looks like the clubs were able to post results over the weekend. I'm going to consider this one closed (for now).

General Discussion / Forum Message Posting Problem
« on: July 08, 2016, 09:20:53 PM »
I'm posting this message partly as an explanation, and partly as a test. Sometime on Thursday morning, our hosting company began having problems with MySQL, which is a database used by the forum software we use. This was not a problem specific to the WSCA website, as it affected literally hundreds (if not thousands) of other users. They were promptly made aware of the situation and began working on a fix.

From a practical standpoint, what was happening was that the MySQL database would intermittently be operating with "read-only" permissions. When this occurred, it was not possible to add or modify existing messages to the forum. As the problem resided at the server level, there was nothing that I could do, except for report the problems and work with the hosting company while they developed, tested and rolled out a solution.

There have been several times over the past day or so that things have seemed to work properly, only to have the issue return after a while. At the time that I'm writing this (22:16 on July 8th), it seems to be working properly and I have been able to add messages without any error messages or database write failures.

We'll see how things work over the weekend.

As this does not affect the main WSCA website, if any clubs have problems posting results, please e-mail them to me (using the webmaster link at the bottom of the front page of the website) and I will post them directly on the website. My schedule is very busy this weekend, but I will be as prompt as possible in getting results up in the event that we are still having issues with the forum software.

As always, I appreciate your patience and cooperation!

General Discussion / 2016 State Shoot Registration - Now Online
« on: March 25, 2016, 03:56:51 PM »
I just finished loading a link to the 2016 State Shoot Registration form onto the front page of the website. I'm attaching a copy of it to this post as well.

Also, the State Shoot tab has been updated. Please look to it for additional information in the upcoming weeks.

That should all be updated now.

Thanks much Red!

Some good pictures... although it looks like Mitch kept "photo-bombing" everyone.  ;)

The main shoot dates are now on the front page of the website. There's a preliminary event list that is currently being reviewed for accuracy. Once it has been approved for publication, I'll be updating the on-line calendar with ALL of the 2016 events.

There was an update to the form, to correct a typo for the high gun cost and the cart fees.

The form available on the front page of the website and the one attached to this post are the correct ones.

Scott - Take a look at it now. I think I've got it. If not, just let me know exactly how you'd like it to read.
