Shoot Results and Announcements

Can I post shoot results or announcements on the web site?

Shoot results and announcements for any shoot on the WSCA Schedule may be submitted for posting on this web site.  Shoot results or announcements from other club sponsored events will not be posted.

How long will the result or announcement remain on the web site?

Results will remain on the site for at least one month.  Shoot announcements will be removed once they become obsolete.

How do I submit the shoot results and/or shoot announcements?

Send them via email to the WSCA Webmaster.  Each shoot result or announcement will be a file that you attach to your email, do not insert the test of result or announcement into the email, it must be an attachment to the email.  The documents should be formatted exactly the way you want them displayed.  The conversion to pdf may result in a few minor unavoidable alterations.

If the appearance of the document needs to be altered however, it will not be posted and you will be notified by email that it is not acceptable.  The sender is responsible for the information and the presentation or “look” of the information being presented.  The webmaster’s responsibility is to convert the document to pdf and place it on the web site for you.

How can I put pictures on the web site?

Like shoot results or announcements, pictures can be submitted for display on your web page as an attachment to your email.  The picture should be either a gif or jpeg format and have a size less than 30k.  If more than one picture is to be included on a page then the total size of all pictures on the page should be less than 100K.  Include special instructions about the picture in the body of the email, for example, a picture caption or where you might like it displayed on the site.

The primary reason for limiting the size of your pictures is for the benefit of the reader, large pictures take a long time to view and may be to large for his screen.  For example, a page with 100k bytes, of just pictures, takes about 60 seconds to download and view by the typical reader.

I have other software that I use to prepare my shoot results or announcement.  Can they be used to prepare these documents for the web site?

Most likely.  If your program can print the results/announcement the way you want them, then I can probably convert them to pdf.  The trick is to submit them as a PostScript file, refer to item 5 in the list below to see how to make a PostScript file using your program.

How do I prepare my shoot results or announcement for posting?

All shoot results and announcements will be presented on the Web site as pdf files.  This type of file format allows users to view and print the results at home on their own PC.   One of the really nice benefits of using pdf files is that they can be created from a wide variety of programs, such as Word, Excel, Access, etc. .  However, because of the limitations of my system I need to limit how these documents are submitted to one of the following five:

  1. Microsoft Word Document (Word 2007 or earlier)
  2. Microsoft Excel Document (Excel 2007 or earlier)
  3. Adobe Acrobat (pdf file)
  4. Html file (generally these will not be converted to pdf, and will be displayed directly)
  5. PostScript File (the most flexible approach, almost any program can do this, and it’s not much harder than 1 or 2)

To get a more detailed explanation of how to submit using each method simply click on the underlined word in the above list.  Generally shoot results and announcements received on Monday or Tuesday will be placed on the site by the weekend.
